Frequently asked questions

Clear answers about RAIUC certification.

The essentials about responsible AI, eligibility, certification, cost, validity, verification and renewal.

What is the Responsible AI Use Charter (RAIUC)?

RAIUC is a simple framework that helps organisations use artificial intelligence responsibly. It focuses on how AI is used in everyday business, not how it is built. By making a public commitment to 10 clear principles, organisations can demonstrate their commitment to using AI in a safe, transparent and accountable way.

Who is RAIUC for, and do we need to be an AI company?

RAIUC is for any organisation that uses—or expects to use—AI and can commit to all 10 charter statements. This includes small businesses, large companies, teams and departments using tools such as ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini and others.

You do not need to be an AI company or have technical expertise. RAIUC is specifically designed for organisations that use AI in everyday work—including writing, analysis, customer support and decision-making—rather than only those that develop AI systems.

What does certification involve?

Certification involves making a public declaration that your organisation will follow the 10 Responsible AI Commitments. The process is designed to be simple, practical and accessible, with no technical barriers.

  • Transparency
  • Human oversight
  • Data protection
  • Bias awareness
  • Responsible use of AI-generated content

Why should we get certified?

Certification provides a clear structure for using AI responsibly and shows customers, employees and partners that your organisation takes responsible AI seriously.

  • Build trust with customers and partners
  • Demonstrate good governance
  • Help reduce risks associated with using AI tools
  • Support preparation for evolving expectations and regulation
  • Create a shared approach to responsible AI across your organisation

Is RAIUC certification free?

Yes. The core charter, initial certification, annual renewal, resources and guidance are free. Optional paid services may be introduced in the future, but they would be separate from the core charter and certification.

How long is a certificate valid?

Certificates are valid for 12 months from the date of issue. The expiry date is shown clearly on the certificate and public verification page.

Is this an audit or legal accreditation?

No. RAIUC is a declaration-based charter. It records an organisation’s commitment to the 10 statements; it does not independently audit every AI system or replace legal compliance obligations.

Can anyone check a certificate?

Yes. The public certificate search accepts a company name or unique certificate number and displays the latest record.

What happens when a certificate expires?

The public record will show the certificate as expired. The organisation can renew by confirming the 10 commitments again, after which a new certificate is issued.

Can we display the RAIUC mark?

Certified organisations may download and display the certification mark while their certificate is valid. The mark must not be used in a misleading way or imply product endorsement.
