RAIUC was founded by Stephen Whitelaw with a simple idea: responsible use of artificial intelligence shouldn't be complicated, expensive or restricted to large organisations with specialist AI teams.
The aim was to create something practical and accessible — a campaign that individuals and organisations could join, understand and actually use.
What started as an idea gradually became the website, declaration-based certification programme, resources and 10 Responsible AI Commitments that you see today.
Gary Ennis — AI Trainer & Educator
A huge thank you to Gary Ennis, an AI trainer and educator who spent considerable time testing RAIUC and providing exceptionally useful feedback.
Gary found bugs we had missed, questioned things that didn't make sense, tested the user experience and suggested improvements that directly influenced the interface you see today.
Good beta testers don't simply tell you that something works — they find the things that don't.
Gary did exactly that, and RAIUC is considerably better because of it.
Colin Rose — Early Adviser
Our thanks also go to Colin Rose, who was involved during the early stages of RAIUC.
Before many of the features you see today existed, Colin provided valuable advice on the direction of the campaign, its strategy and how the idea could develop.
Early conversations can have a surprisingly large influence on what something eventually becomes, and Colin helped us think through some of those important first decisions.
ChatGPT & ChatGPT Sites
And then there is ChatGPT.
RAIUC was built using ChatGPT Sites (launched on 9 July 2026), with ChatGPT assisting throughout the development of the website — from initial ideas and wording through to design, functionality, debugging, accessibility, administration tools and many, many iterations.
Without it, RAIUC in its present form simply wouldn't exist.
So, to ChatGPT Sites: thank you.
And please stay alive. We've become rather dependent on you.
There is perhaps something appropriately circular about using artificial intelligence to build a campaign encouraging people to use artificial intelligence responsibly.
Our Testers, Supporters & Early Users
We also want to thank everyone who tested the website, completed the certification, tried the AI Quiz, downloaded a resource, reported a problem, questioned something, suggested an improvement or simply told somebody else about RAIUC.
Small pieces of feedback often lead to surprisingly important changes.
If something on this website feels particularly simple or intuitive today, there is a reasonable chance that it wasn't always that way.
The Open-Source & Technology Community
Like almost every modern website, RAIUC also stands on the shoulders of a much wider technology community.
We are grateful to the developers, researchers, standards organisations, open-source contributors and technology providers whose work makes projects such as RAIUC possible.
Much of the technology we use every day exists because somebody, somewhere, decided to build something and share it.
And Finally…
RAIUC remains a work in progress.
As artificial intelligence evolves, responsible AI use will evolve with it — and so will this campaign.
This credits page will therefore never really be finished.
