About RAIUC

Practical responsibility for the age of AI.

The Responsible AI Use Charter (RAIUC) helps organisations use artificial intelligence safely, responsibly and with confidence.

Why we exist

AI is now used throughout everyday business—from marketing and customer service to recruitment, analysis and decision-making. Its benefits are significant, but so are the risks: bias, misinformation, privacy failures, weak oversight and a lack of transparency.

Much AI guidance focuses on organisations that design and develop AI systems. However, most organisations are using existing AI tools rather than building them. They also need clear, practical guidance for responsible everyday use.

RAIUC was created to fill that gap by turning responsible-AI principles into a clear public commitment that organisations of every size can understand and apply.

What we do

We provide a simple, free framework built around 10 practical commitments. It helps organisations:

The commitments are written in plain language and can be followed without specialist technical expertise.

  • Understand the risks associated with using AI
  • Put proportionate safeguards and human oversight in place
  • Use AI fairly, transparently and accountably
  • Protect people, information and personal data
  • Build trust with customers, employees and partners
  • Promote learning and continuous improvement

Who RAIUC is for

RAIUC is designed for organisations of every size, including:

RAIUC is particularly relevant to organisations that use AI for activities such as writing, research, analysis, customer support, recruitment or decision-making.

  • Small businesses
  • Large organisations
  • Individual departments and teams
  • Organisations using tools such as ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini and other AI services
  • Anyone responsible for introducing or overseeing AI use within an organisation

A simple approach

You do not need to be an AI expert or have a large technical or legal team to get started.

You need a clear understanding of the risks, sensible safeguards and people who remain accountable for how AI is used.

RAIUC provides that starting point. It explains responsible AI in plain language and turns broad principles into practical commitments that can be applied in everyday business.

What certification means

Organisations that agree to all 10 commitments receive a dated certificate, a unique verification number and a certification mark they can display. Certification lasts for 12 months and must then be renewed.

RAIUC certification records an organisation’s declaration that it will follow the commitments. It is not a statutory approval, independent audit, product-safety test or substitute for legal, technical or professional advice.

Our mission and vision

Our mission is to make responsible AI use the standard, not the exception.

Our vision is a world in which every organisation using AI does so responsibly, transparently and with clear accountability.

We want to help organisations:

  • Use AI safely and confidently
  • Avoid common mistakes
  • Protect people and data
  • Strengthen transparency and accountability
  • Prepare for evolving expectations and regulation
